PiliPinas Debates 2016: The Vice Presidential Debates

Last night was the Vice Presidential Debates of the PiliPinas Debates 2016 and in the debates that happened so far, this was the best organized and it was organized and hosted by CNN Philippines.

ElexPH will walk you into the highlights of what went down last night at the Vice Presidential debates

Bongbong Marcos gets booed and roasted

Literally every time Bongbong Marcos opens his mouth, he gets booed by the audience - even when Pinky Webb has asked for the event security to escort the hecklers out. It seems that the booing towards Bongbong never runs out.

Here is just one of the many times that Bongbong Marcos was booed even after the hecklers have been escorted out:

Vice Presidential candidate Alan Peter Cayetano then proceeded to roast Bongbong Marcos for the entirety of the debate

Which sparked reactions such as these:

And it eventually ended with Cayetano and Marcos fighting over Duterte

Gringo Honasan becomes the darling of social media

Gringo Honasan becomes the darling of social media

This one is a pretty unexpected thing to happen to a man who we all knew as that ex-rebel who was responsible for the earliest coups to happen post-Martial Law (until Antonio Trillanes came along, that is). Aside from that, given his reputation as a conservative senator, who would have thought that he would eventually make his way into the hearts of social media users, who are mostly young.

One even thinks that Gringo Honasan looks like Kai from the Korean boyband, EXO

Putting the "Honasan is cute" tweets aside, social media users also praised Honasan for the way he performed during the Vice Presidential debates itself.

Even a Duterte-Cayetano supporter thinks that Gringo Honasan addressed the questions presented to him on the debate well:

Alan Peter Cayetano trivializes rape

While Alan Peter Cayetano had success in yesterday's debates on his continuous roasting on Bongbong Marcos, he still ended up stepping on the wrong foot when he made the statement of "Palakarin nyo sa Davao ang pinakamaganda dito sa UST. Pag ninakawan yan, nakidnap or na-rape, hindi kami [Duterte & Cayetano] tatakbo" (Take the prettiest girl in UST. If she gets robbed, kidnapped or raped, we're [Duterte and Cayetano] not going to run for office) during the debates which you can watch starting on the 0:50 mark of the video below:

And it upset many people...

And it should upset all of us. Clearly, he has no idea that rape does happen in Davao. Even a simple Google search will tell you that there are cases of rape in Davao (here's one of the first results that show up) and if that doesn't convince you yet, in 2015, an eight-year old girl died from rape-slay in Davao and just earlier this year, a 17-year-old was raped and killed in a forest in Davao.

Sure, Davao has lower incidences of rape compared to elsewhere in our country but that is not an excuse for him to dismiss the cases of rape that happened in Davao.

Dismissing the fact that rape could victimize anyone is perpetuating rape culture. Trivializing rape in general IS perpetuating rape culture.

Sad enough that Alan Peter Cayetano doesn't know that, but what do you expect from someone whose running mate has no actual respect for women and is basically the Donald Trump of the Philippines?

Leni Robredo is crowned by netizens as VP debate winner

Despite being just a first-timer to politics who decided to seek for the second-highest office in the country, Leni Robredo has proven to the Filipinos that she is worthy of our respect as a Vice Presidential candidate.

For one thing, the results of the Rappler online poll on the VP debates show that Robredo garnered the highest number of votes. In Inquirer's online poll, Robredo is tied with Cayetano on the first place.

Even back on Twitter, Leni Robredo generally received praises such as these:

Chiz Escudero: VP Candidate or spoken word poet?

Chiz Escudero was made the subject of ridicule by netizens thanks to his manner of speaking during the debates that made him sound more like a spoken word poet and less like a Vice Presidential candidate in a debate. As some would put it "nasa maling forum ata siya" (he must be at the wrong forum). Those remarks were attributed to his use of flowery words.

Here are just a few of the Tweets that made fun of Escudero's manner of speaking during yesterday's debates:

Antonio Trillanes goes on a "realtalk" spree

True to his reputation of facing the nation's problems head-first, Antonio Trillanes made a remarkable performance in the VP debates on his rebuttals against Alan Peter Cayetano's statements which sometimes came off as unrealistic. Basically, Trillanes was always the one who had to bring Cayetano back to reality during the debates.

Aside from his powerful rebuttals against Alan Peter Cayetano, he also went on to hit Gringo Honasan in regards to the questionable things that his runningmate, Vice President Jejomar Binay, has gotten into for the past six years.

Then the people have spoken on his brigade of realtalks:
